Blackman & Sons was founded in 1950 by Alan Blackman in the backyard of his East Bentleigh home. Alan recognised a need for Motor trimming in the area and put his skills to use taking on repairs and restoration work. Soon Alan became so busy he enlisted the help of his sons; of which Peter, Chris and Michael continue to run the business today.
Blackman & Sons was born. They quickly procured a factory in East Bentleigh until Alan's retirement. At this stage, the brothers began to see a need for aftermarket leather in new vehicles for dealerships. From this point on, Blackman & Sons have continued to grow and be at the forefront of the industry.
Blackman & Sons needed
another factory upgrade when
a revolutionary product arose
in the motor trimming
industry - leather kits
(a previously manufactured
kit that is ready to be installed at any motor trimming factory in Australia).
This facility has increased Blackman's manufacturing capabilities and helped Motor Trimmers across Australia increase their 'bottom line' by reducing the amount of time previously spent on patterning and manufacturing an interior.
Today Blackman & Sons work from three locations:
- A trimming and manufacturing shop in Cochranes Rd Moorabbin, Victoria specialising in new cars
- A repair and restoration branch in Levansewell Rd, Moorabbin, Victoria
- As well as a fitment branch in Caringbah, Sydney who fit leather kits supplied by Melbourne
Over 55 years Blackman & Sons have become a stable and growing company with a reputable name throughout Australia and a product they passionately stand by.
